This guy has to be one of the most exciting and outstanding producers in the Hunter today, from a region that is holding true to its traditions there's still room for someone to rise up, make a bit of noise and shake things up, because life, like wine, is about balance. What it truly took was someone with a deep understanding of the dirt, of the climate, of the people and most importantly loves this region that has played a big part in shaping what Australian wine is for decades. A second generation producer there now, Angus has said it best, he is there to marry tradition with innovation, and looking at the wines, he really knows what he's doing.
2018 in the Hunter brought the perfect fruit for a skin contact Gewurztraminer, which has been a slow to take varietal in the region but with the right growing season is proving so rewarding. Angus' is smashing out with depth and zest, morish acidity and a driving sense of excitement. Super limited so it's an early bird wine for sure.
