This guy has to be one of the most exciting and outstanding producers in the Hunter today, from a region that is holding true to its traditions there's still room for someone to rise up, make a bit of noise and shake things up, because life, like wine, is about balance. What it truly took was someone with a deep understanding of the dirt, of the climate, of the people and most importantly loves this region that has played a big part in shaping what Australian wine is for decades. A second generation producer there now, Angus has said it best, he is there to marry tradition with innovation, and looking at the wines, he really knows what he's doing.
The Charmless Man is a new sort of beast for the area, a blend of Alicante Bouschet, Pinot Noir and Tempranillo. There's little tweaking here to avoid taking away from the freshness and vibrancy of such an insanely fun little number. Much like the Blur Song it takes its name from, it is such a happiness-inducing thing.
