Enter the clandestine, Copenhagen Co-Lab conquerors of Rum with a cult following, they do their work, as they say, 'by way of the shadow', as in we know bugger all about them really. Phantom Spirits are taking custody of some unbelievable aged Caribbean rums, moving them over to Copenhagen and teaming up with some of the most respected brewers & producers in the region to then age and treat the rums in some very unique barrels. Albeit in tiny amounts, with a total production only sitting a bit over 3000 bottles all up, so true hen's teeth.
We might not know much about the Phantom Spirits crew but we at least now know they're Monty Python fans, with the Crunchy frog being a well purposed reference to one of their bits. The Rum itself was adopted as a 4yr old from Guatemala then laid down in a stunning little Syrah barrel from K Vintners in Washington State (US) to be infused with Leopard frogs, leaving the finished spirit to be one of the most unique drinking experiences I'm yet to come across. It's this vinous, delicately rich sexy liquid with this wholesome yet subtle spice that I can't place that I've seen from anything else. And each bottle has a frog bone inside, because "if we took the bones out, it wouldn't be crunchy, would it?!"
