Menti 'Monte del Cuca' 2018
This product is currently sold out.
Menti grows and produces almost its entire range from one grape: Gargenega. Neighbouring the Soave DOC in the Gambellara, they strive to produce low yielding, artisanal expressions of the variety that steer away from the neighbouring reputation of (predominantly) high yield and high production. Eschewing their affiliation even with the Gambellara DOC in 2012, they now label their wines as 'vino volutamente declassato', meaning deliberately declassified wine.
'Monte Del Cuca' is of course, 100% Gargenega biodynamically grown on volcanic soils in the hills of Gambellara. Left on skins for 22 days before being left to rest on lees, part in concrete tanks and part in un-charred Slovenian oak for at least a year.
This wine has developed beautifully into notes of baked apples & caramel, but not without its savoury side. A warming acidity thats balanced almost too well by its substantial yet enticing tannin. Mysterious & very rewarding, crack in.
