Jean Jacques Morel is a true hero of the old world, being one of the greatest agricultural minds in France today. His reputation of pushing some of the strictest approaches to biodynamic viticulture found on the continent has earned him both renown as well as his fair share of ire from more traditional neighbours. Regardless of ideas of how things should be done, his wines are considered some of the finest examples of the Saint Aubin apellation, in the north of the Cote de Beaune. And all of this whilst being the smallest producer in Burgundy.
The presence of the 2013 'Le Band' St Aubin Rouge borders on ineffable. It holds power and concentration in one hand and seamlessly nurtures an elegance and unbelievable purity in the other. Pristine fruit with a mineral soundtrack that is carried forward on a chariot of structure and depth. If you can't marry those things in the one wine in your mind then there's only one thing left to do, bottoms up!
